ISD Portfolio > Course Design

These are a collection of excerpts from eLearning courses recorded from the beginning to show how I have you initially enter and experience the course's engagement strategies. In my eLearning courses I focus on building goal-oriented, learner-centered experiences using systematic models (like ADDIE, Kirkpatrick, or SAM). The goal is to maximize knowledge transfer and retention. Specific, measurable, and observable objectives that define what the learner will be able to do upon completion are implemented. I break down large concepts into small, manageable units to manage cognitive load. I also integrate low-stakes practice activities (knowledge checks) and high-stakes formal assessments to measure mastery. Providing immediate, specific, and actionable feedback linked to the learning objective, especially in scenario-based activities.

Arranging content to build foundational knowledge before introducing advanced topics is important. Quizzes, drag-and-drops, simulations, branching scenarios, interactive timelines, click-to-reveal (tabs/hotspots), and hover-to-reveal (tooltips) are used. These promote active learning, application of skills, and undertanding. High-quality graphics/infographics, explainer videos, professional voiceover narration, and visual cues are also used to enhance comprehension, cater to different learning styles, and increase engagement. Progress bar/indicators, navigational controls (next/back buttons), search functionality, and personalized learning paths reduces learner frustration, manages cognitive load, and provides a sense of accomplishment. I aim to ensure all learners, regardless of ability can succeed.
